The Lords of the Ring
Player characters may be original characters, or established characters from The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit.
Any good characters from these books is available for play, except Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and his followers, Tom Bombadil or any of the Ents.
If you are unclear on what “good” means, consider that Boromir is a playable character, but is right at the edge of good for these purposes. No, you can’t play Smeagol. Wormtongue is right out.
There are two playable Wizards: Gandalf the Grey and Radagast the Brown. Neither Saruman the White nor the Blue Wizards are playable, and you can’t create your own. These are angels walking Middle Earth in the guise of Men, and Manwe isn’t sending any more.
The game follows book canon, except where movie canon improves female representation. In practice, this means that Movie!Arwen and Tauriel are both playable characters.
Do please have a think about what character you might like to play, but do not generate a character before the start of the session. Character generation will take place at the start of the first session, and will be collaborative, so that everyone around the table is on the same page with respect to how each character is represented mechanically. This is principally important for established characters, but applies to original characters as well.
